DOTERRA FOR ATHLETES

The lengths and rigors athletes will go to get their body in prime shape cannot be underestimated. There is a constant need to assess what is the next ‘big thing’ in enhancing game day performance and maximizing recovery time. On occasions, we have seen this result and aftermaths of athletes flirting with banned substances in hope they will not be caught out.

All Natural Performance simply empowers and encourages athletes to support their body in natural ways. With the worlds purest and most potent essentials oils at our disposal, we strongly believe that essential oils for athletes are the most powerful and useful tool.

The greatest benefit is that these oils are available to everyone without being exclusive to professional clubs or exorbitant in price. Professional sporting environment or amateur league, there is an essential oil for you.

Below are the key reasons why every athlete needs essential oils as part of your daily regime.

Performance:

The performance you’ll see on the outside are built on a powerful and well managed inside. It goes without saying that a healthy immune response is important to keep you on the park and thriving. The next thought should be how you can stay healthy through the ‘daily enhancers’

Instead of attempting to boost performance ‘artificially,’ the natural approach is to support your body and the rest will take care of itself.

Peppermint is terrific oil for maximizing athletic performance. It has been tested for its performance boosting abilities, demonstrating immediate improving in performance measures such as jumping, respiration and endurance.

A 2014 study out of Iran showed that Peppermint positively affects blood pressure, breathing and other physiological measures.

“An improvement in the spirometric measurements (FVC1, PEF, and PIF) might be due to the peppermint effects on the bronchial smooth muscle tonicity with or without affecting the lung surfactant.”

Topical application and inhalation has been shown to improve pain tolerance and workload effort. Peppermint is highly desirable in enhancing performance in a natural manner.

Immune support:

For overall health and wellbeing, On Guard is dōTERRA ‘immune support’ blend and the go to oil for protecting against environmental and season threats due to their positive effective on the immune system.  On Guard can be taken internally on a daily basis to maintain healthy immune function and support healthy cardiovascular function

Soothing Sore Muscles:

Athletes know that recovery is a crucial part of game day and training.

Applying oils to your routine massage or post-match bath can help relax and soothe the aches, pains and over-used muscles.

Oils such as Frankincense contain natural anti-inflammatory properties and are a terrific addition when combined with the Deep Blue Rub (aka Ice Blue).

Lavender as well is one of the most popular essential oils and is known for its positive effects on neck pain as shown in a 2014 study. Pain relief was calculated using multiple pain scales and shown to decrease pain.

As mentioned already peppermint which is one of the key essential oils used in the dōTERRA Deep Blue range, is known for its analgesic as well as antispasmodic properties for those sore muscles. It is great when added to the Fractionated Coconut Oil as part of a massage routine. The immediate cooling effect of peppermint is a welcome addition after a strenuous performance.

doTERRA ahave a specific massage technique called AromaTouch Technique which you can find out more about here, terrific for soothing sore muscles and nourishing the body.

Positive Mind:

We are all wired differently so we will all react inversely to certain oils. Choose the oil scent that resonates best with you, cup it in the palm of your hands and inhale. A welcomed pre-game blend would be Wild Orange and Peppermint. Wild Orange is known to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, while Peppermint is the go to for alertness and concentration.   The inviting aroma will help relax and rejuvenate you.

Traditional Oils:

There are many oils that are popular for dealing with pain relief. Ayurvedic practices have quoted the use of fir essential oil as a “forest healer” and great for many types of joint and muscle pain relief.

Wintergreen essential oil is another one that is found in the Deep Blue range. This oil however contains an ingredient called Methyl Salicylate which while being safe to use topically, is toxic when ingested in large amounts. It is also not recommended to use this oil during pregnancy.

Anti-Viral and Antimicrobial Properties:

Internal complications such as sore muscles and aches are one thing. However it is open cuts and wounds as a result of a fall on the track or scratch from a footy boot that require some immediate attention.

Instead of opting for over the counter medication or antibiotics to avoid the risk of infection, there is an option to create your own injury spray to mitigate the risk.

Some popular oils include Tea Tree (antimicrobial strength), Lavender souths skin irritations), Purify (acts as a terrific cleansing agent for the skin) and Frankincense (the king of oils – used to rejuvenate skin). A few drops of each of these oils can be combined to an empty spray bottle and sprayed directly on the injury.
